Phoenix Academy Training CIC is a Liverpool-based social enterprise. This is how it started, and why we chose hair and beauty.

I started Phoenix Academy because I know what it is to want something more and not have a way in. I am open-minded and determined, and I have spent a long time watching people in my community be priced out, talked down to, or simply left waiting.
Hair and beauty is where I chose to start because it is a real trade. It is marketed, it is in demand, and it does not take years of study before you can earn. That matters: a fast route to income is the difference between aspiration and a living.
What I want to give people is practical skill and the confidence that comes with it — the two things so many of us were never offered easy access to.
